Georgia Elwiss, ICC WT20 Tour Blog 1
We have been in Bangladesh for just over a week now, and the team have all acclimatised well to the conditions. We flew into Dhaka where our warm up games were held, and were duly met by a Police escort from the airport!
We have all been embracing the wonderful culture over here – that said, the mosquitoes are a bit of a nuisance! Our assistant coach Carl Crowe informed me he counted 43 bites on his left foot having spent just 10 minutes outside. Deet at the ready!
Apart from the mosquitoes we are loving life here in Bangladesh. The facilities are fantastic (albeit it 90 minutes away) and the girls have trained hard in preparation for the tournament. We have had two good warm up wins against Pakistan and New Zealand, where different players have starred in a few different roles which they might play in. It is particularly pleasing that the youngsters have come into the team and settled in so quickly.
In our down time we have set up the Xbox and Kate Cross, Sarah Taylor, Danni Hazell and I (with Tammy Beaumont occasionally coming in off the bench) have taken to playing a lot of FIFA! We are playing as a neutral team (Swansea) and taking on a Premier League season. We’re currently sitting in 4th place so it’s not going too badly! Only one mishap to report, in that one night Crossy was getting so into the games that she couldn’t sleep. Our team doctor Ruth has since imposed a bedtime FIFA ban! The doc was very unpopular within the Swansea camp!
We flew to Shylet on Saturday ready to start our group matches. Our first is tomorrow against the West Indies who have been playing very well leading into this tournament. It’s going to be a cracker so make sure you’re following! Live scores on www.ecb.co.uk and twitter updates on @ECB_cricket.
